Introduction

The “Canal de Nantes à Brest” takes an important part in the fluvial economy of Britanny. In the context of the « Valeur Ajoutée » at ISEG, concerning the sustainable environment and littoral, our group of five students has decided to work on the “Canal de Nantes à Brest”.  The canal is currently the subject of debate in several circles because of pollution, economic activities tied to fluvial activity and tourism. The Canal is thus quite controversial.

Our project

We are going to define what are the main elements of the pollution and the “débarrage” of certain parts of the Canal which entail several bad consequences on environment and tourism. To ensure this, we have already contacted the SMATAH, the association of the Canal and a regional advisor of Bretagne, Madame Véronique Hériaud who is going to give us some precious information.

The communication actions which are planned could be first of all the cleaning of a short part of the canal with the presence of a regional TV Chanel like France 3 Région, Nantes 7 or a possible bike trip along the Canal for a day to see the consequences of the Canal debates and raise awareness about the environmental problem.
