The future of fishing

poissons_2.JPGThis week (March 10th 2008), the question of the future of the fishing has been argued by a dozen fishing professionals. Within the framework of the new plan of reduction in the fishing fleet, the fishermen sent more than 200 boats to be salvaged or broken.

By facing more and more drastic quotas and the decrease of the sales in the second-hand ships market, there are numerous fishing boat owners who choose to give up their business.

The question we ask is...
"Is the situation of the fishing industry, which has more than 20.000 employees in France, that desperate?"

In order to speak about that, Laure Bezault received Dominique Lebrun in her show named "Cap ocean" on the television channel Nantes 7. Laure Bezault is a strong willed fish merchant and also the president of the local committee of the Fishing in La Turballe. She has been defending for years the fishermen's values. She fought with her colleagues for the re-opening of the anchovy fishing, whose banning had earlier had numerous trawlers staying in the port.

Regarding this problem, "Cap Ocean" takes us on a tour of the port of La Turballe where the journalist Fabrice Caër  met Mickaël Couedel, a fishing boat owner. This fisherman has decided to scale down his fishing business to insure his future. Since he does not have a big boat, he chose a small  9 meters boat which he uses to fish small fish, shrimps and sea spiders.

The future of fishing in La Turballe is threatened,
